Brain Gym® is a program of physical activities that enhances learning ability in special needs children as well as the general population.

The activities are easy and enjoyable. They bring about rapid and often dramatic improvements in focus, comprehension, communication, organization and physical movement.

Brain Gym® enhances the development of neural pathways in the brain through movement.

Brain Gym grew out of research started in 1969 by Paul Dennison, Ph.D., who was looking for ways to assist children and adults who had been identified as "learning disabled." His research led him to the study of kinesiology, the science of body movement and its relationship to brain function.

Babies and young children naturally perform what experts in early childhood education call developmental movements. These movements develop the neural connections in the brain, which are essential to learning.

Cecilia (Freeman) Koester, M.Ed. took Dennison’s research and modified it to meet the needs of children who have special needs. She has created a program for children with challenges such as autism, attention deficit disorder, cerebral palsy, blindness, or developmental delays.
